Bascinet

Bascinet

A bascinet is a type of medieval helmet that was popular in Europe during the 14th and 15th centuries. It is characterized by its rounded or conical shape and the fact that it fully encloses the head, with a visor or face plate that can be raised or lowered to protect the face. The bascinet was often worn with a mail aventail, a curtain of chain mail that hung from the bottom of the helmet to protect the neck and shoulders. Some bascinets were also equipped with a plume or crest, which served as a decorative element and could be used to identify the wearer. Bascinets were typically made of steel and were worn by knights and other heavily armored soldiers.
