Viking Bearded Axe from Gotland

Viking Bearded Axe from Gotland

Viking Bearded Axe from Gotland The bearded axe or skeggøx (from the Old Norse skegg for beard and øx for axe) enjoyed great popularity from the 6th. c. until the end of the Viking Age – both as a tool and as a weapon. Compared to the sword, it was not only easier, but also much cheaper to make and therefore the most prevalent weapon of the common people in early medieval Scandinavia. The high-quality axe we offer here is based upon an archaeological piece found on the Swedisch island of Gotland. The axe head is hand-forged from high carbon steel and mounted on a painted wood shaft. Please note that, as the edge is sharp and fully functional, this Gotlandic Viking axe is designed as a collectors or decoration piece and not suited for combat reenactment! Details: - Blade material: high carbon steel (not stainless!), sharp edge - Handle material: wood - Overall length (with shaft): approx. 58 cm - Axe head: approx. 20 x 12 cm - Shaft thickness: approx. 3.5 x 2 cm - Weight: approx. 1250 g - Supplied WITHOUT sheath Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece. Please note: We do not sell this product to customers under the age of 18. Please provide your birth date when ordering. Well also need a copy of your ID-card or passport by email, scan, fax or mail.
